The weather in DC has been absolutely glorious over the past few days, and it has me dreaming of spring wardrobes -- bright colors, floaty shapes, the works. They're flirty and sparkly and would be killer with a pair of nude heels, a simple, tissue-thin tee, and a stack of silver bracelets come warm spring evenings.

One thing that I've loved about my time in Washington has been the opportunity to visit places that are true landmarks in America. On a recent trip to the State Department, I found myself in the diplomatic reception rooms, unable to tear my eyes from the stunning English-made chandeliers. There's something about dressing professionally that has always made me nervous -- see my traumatic suit shopping experience. I love this subtle herringbone print, the seaming, and perfect pleats, and have fallen even more in love with this frock since I started styling it with my favorite bright belts for an unexpected shot of color.

"Mildly obsessed" doesn't even begin to describe my feelings for this bag. From the design to the slogan, everything about it is so perfect for me. The contrasting handles and dipped-style bottom are too pretty. It's big and roomy -- perfect to use as a carry-on -- and I firmly believe that if everyone followed its advice, the world would be a seriously better place.

My serious addiction to pieces that perfectly juxtapose toughness and femininity is well-documented here -- and when I find a designer that does this beautifully, I fall in love immediately. Mason by Michelle Mason is just such a line. The pieces are always tailored to perfection and she combines soft shapes so beautifully with modern details. Is anyone else drooling?

I love, love paperbag shapes; however, I find that they're often unflattering -- especially in pants. However, this cropped pair by Kimchi Blue may have totally stolen my heart. I love the length, the cuff, and the forgiving pleats, and the waist is truly fantastic. Better, they come in a bevy of shades that would be perfect for work or play this spring.

I'm all about the classics. Whether it's a great pair of trouser jeans or the perfect little black dress, as far as I'm concerned, you can never substitute for a great piece that will last forever. However, that's not to say that I'm not a big fan of new twists on old favorites. Enter: the classic oxford shirt. A simple collared button-down will never go out of style; however, I love the fresh takes on the look that are out there right now -- and there's one for every price range to boot.

I want. So badly. This chic Tory Burch button-down is such a fun take on the classic oxford. This would be incredible with a pencil skirt and cardigan now (to be taken off when you leave the office, of course) or denim shorts and flat sandals come spring.

I'm obsessed with this Madewell collection. Obsessed. And this dress is just so charming that I find it impossible to resist. The color, to begin with, is simply phenomenal. It's so bright and punchy without feeling intrusive. I love the sweet, ladylike shape (that swingy skirt, the high neck, the short sleeves), and the length is perfection. Best of all, of course, is the surprise in the back. I love leaving an impression as I walk away.

There's little that I love more than a great blazer. Structured and fitted or loose and boyfriend-style, they add instant flair to any outfit. With gray skies and dreary days ahead for the next few months, I've been absolutely adoring bright jackets as a fun way to add a shot of life to any look. My mom has a total addiction to chocolate-covered cherries. Each Christmas, she receives boxes of cordials. This year, I elected to make a homemade batch (using this recipe) for her in lieu of hitting Walgreen's for her stocking stuffer. I started a bit late: these cherries require one to two weeks of time for the fondant center to liquify in order to achieve the proper consistency. Though I gifted these after only a week, we couldn't wait to dive into a few and they tasted truly amazing. They get even better as they age, though -- my mom recently called to inform me that they're completely liquified now and are the juiciest, tastiest chocolate-covered confections she's ever tasted, making the slightly labor-intensive (though not difficult) process totally worth it.

Apparently it's time to start thinking about spring -- at least, that's what the retailers would have you believe as coat and jacket prices are slashed. However, I have a solid three months to go before I'll be ready to shed my winter coat, meaning that this is prime time to snap up a new one. I love this chic little cropped version from Old Navy: it's a wool blend and sure to be warm, the color is versatile, and the shape is fun without being too trendy. Brilliant.

Revolutionized by J. Crew, the half-tuck is a trick that I haven't quite mastered. It's a chic way to add a little shape to a slouchy look, show off a great belt, or add some visual interest to an otherwise bland midsection of an outfit and gives off the casual-but-pulled-together vibe that I find myself trying constantly (and in vain) to copy perfectly. And doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose? Regardless, I'm truly smitten with the look and love how it's adaptable to all kinds of different pieces and situations.

This look represents the classic rendition of the half-tuck: a simple button-down with one tail tucked in, layered under a perfectly preppy blazer. I love that this is a little slouchy but still looks clean.

The half-tuck goes professional in a relaxed way here, as a cozy sweater is tucked into a chic, sleek pencil skirt. Without the added attention to tucking the sweater, the proportions in this outfit would undoubtedly raise some eyebrows: the half-tuck pulls it all together beautifully.

Here, the half-tuck serves perfectly to show off the bow-style belt on these gorgeous pants. I can completely picture this looking fantastic with a pair of sky-high heels and piled-on jewelry as a pulled-together evening look.

COVETING: Cambridge Satchel Company Upwardly Mobile Satchel in Green and Navy -- 14"

I have a serious satchel addiction. The Cambridge Satchel Company has truly stolen my heart. Although a more neutral shade would undoubtedly be more prudent (I do love this brown-and-cream one), I can't help myself from drooling over the bright pinks, oranges, and yellows -- such a great way to add a shot of color in a fun, preppy way. I love the bold kelly green and navy shades of this two-tone one and am sure that it would hold the ridiculous amount of stuff that I carry around with me every day.

I find feathers to be particularly intriguing in fashion because they can have so many different vibes. They invoke a bohemian sensibility when worn in jewelry and as a print but can look incredibly glamorous when added to the skirt of a cocktail dress. They're pretty and feminine but stop short of feeling overly soft. And, of course, there's a fine line between chic feathers and ones that make you look like a parrot. I find that simple, luxurious feathered details in neutral shades help you to stay on the good side of that particular line.

ATTAINABLE: Gap Bow-Back Ballet Flats

I'm always a fan of a great pair of flats, and these pretty little Gap ones take the cake. I love the soft-looking leather and perfect dove gray color. And of course the bow on the back is simply adorable. It would be a crime for it to be hidden, so these would be perfect with a pair of rolled-up boyfriend jeans or scrunched-up skinnies, but even better paired with opaque tights and a darling dress.

Dresses have become a true passion of mine only in the past few years -- and I've definitely been making up for lost time. When winter rolls around and luxe fabrics are the best way to stay warm and still look fabulous, I admittedly miss my favorite cotton sundresses -- but the frock fun doesn't have to end when the weather turns dreary. Dresses with touches of leather are seasonally appropriate without being too intimidating (although I desperately wish that I could pull off an all-leather shift like Jennifer Aniston), and even less-expensive options that don't look cheap are available.

I love a great sweater, especially when the weather is as ridiculously chilly as January tends to be. This little Brandy Melville number is perfect to keep me warm and adorable simultaneously. I love the easy shape and little cutouts and am convinced that it would look as great with a skirt and flats as with jeans and boots. Cute, cozy, and versatile -- can you really ask for more than that?

Smythe is a brand that, though new to me, has totally stolen my heart. Everything about it is utter brilliance. A great coat (or, you know, a few) is essential for me in winter: if I'm topping 90% of my outfits with it, outerwear needs to be fabulous. Thus, I'm particularly enamored by the brand's signature, perfectly-tailored coats; however, there are some simple everyday pieces that are absolutely gorgeous as well.

COVETING: Alice + Olivia Lucille Beaded Bustier Tier Dress

I am outrageously in love with this pretty, flirty, sparkly little dress. I love the juxtaposition between the beaded bodice and the lace skirt. The removable straps are genius, and the overall silhouette is nothing short of stunning. I even love the asymmetric hem, usually a tough sell for me. Though the holidays have come to a close, I firmly believe that there's a spot in my closet for this shimmering winter cocktail dress.

I like to start out each new year full of hope for big, exciting things to come. Though I refuse to give up such notions, I've learned in the past year that a focus on the little things can be just as important. Maybe this won't be the year that I discover a cure for Celiac disease, but I bet I can hunt down the perfect gluten-free chocolate chip cookie recipe. My time may be better spent making a stranger smile every day than biting off more than I can chew. If I can't try every high-profile restaurant on my to-do list, accidentally discovering an underground frozen yogurt shop might be enough. Regardless, I plan to spend 2012 focusing on appreciating the little things, the mundane, everyday occurrences that often deserve as much attention as their monumental counterparts. COVETING: Tory Burch Darya Faille Colorblock Dress

I love when clothes are festive but don't hit you over the head with red, green, and glitter. This pretty Tory Burch cocktail dress is stunning and has just enough of a festive attitude to give off subtly cheerful vibes. I love the sash and how sophisticated the bodice is. Best of all, it's totally wearable through the rest of the year -- a must, in my opinion, with splurges like this.

Sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery to provoke a change in attitude. Since returning home, my holiday spirit has been fully restored. I've already partaken in a few of my favorite traditions (hanging ornaments on the tree, cleaning out my closet for charitable donations) and can't wait to do everything else on my list.

I can't thank you all enough for your tips to help me jump into the holiday spirit. My finals are over and I couldn't be more thrilled to take a break for awhile. I threw on this festive sweater immediately after writing the last sentence on my exam yesterday and popped open an apple-cinnamon air freshener. As I pack up my room completely, purchase the Justin Beiber Christmas album on iTunes, and prepare to spend the next semester in Washington, DC, it's finally beginning to feel a lot like Christmas -- a sentiment that I think will grow exponentially once I get home tomorrow (yes, I just wrote the end to an ABC Family Christmas movie).

This floaty sheer Banana Republic blouse is at the tippy-top of my wishlist right now. I love the wide bow at the neck and pleat detail in the front, and the print is just subtle enough to be versatile but can definitely be picked up on. I love this styled with a pencil skirt, and how great would it look under a jacket with a pair of dark skinny jeans and heels?

I can say with zero trepidation that holiday baking is one of my all-time favorite things to do. I can try new recipes, justify making treats that are entirely too indulgent and complicated for a regular baking endeavor, and go back to all of my old favorites (I've been craving my mom's Buckeyes like nobody's business lately). Plus, homemade treats can make the best gifts. I've been bookmarking recipes for weeks and am so excited to get started this weekend.

I absolutely LOVE this chic and incredibly ladylike little Madewell coat. The single-breasted shape is so classic and I think that the muted plaid is simply brilliant. It's so versatile -- it would be perfect with jeans and flats to run errands or over a cocktail dress for a holiday party. Simple, pretty, and perfect for every occasion? Fabulous in my book.

I'm usually one of THOSE people during the holiday season. I want to start playing Christmas music immediately after Halloween but just manage to restrain myself until post-Thanksgiving for the sanity of those around me. The red cups at Starbucks are not in any way, shape, or form overhyped, in my opinion. Cheesecake is rapidly becoming my go-to dessert; I just can't get enough of the creamy texture and slightly tangy filling. As soon as I saw this recipe from Joy the Baker, I was certain that it would make for the perfect Thanksgiving dessert -- and I was right. There are a few steps, but each one is completely worth it to create this creamy cheesecake. The crisp crust adds a nice crunch to the smooth vanilla center, and the gingersnaps provided just enough spice to contrast with the gooey, salted caramel topping. I adapted the recipe only slightly, using a springform pan rather than pie plate and subbing in gluten-free gingersnaps in the crust to make this delectable dessert edible for everyone at dinner.

How incredibly dynamic is this little black dress from Zara? I was immediately drawn to the architectural shape of the shoulder and sleeve -- it gives just a hint of avant-garde without being too over-the-top for every event this season. I love the simple, sleek shape of the rest of this frock and it would be so perfect with a bright clutch, heels, and a bold cocktail ring.

I'm a self-professed Lauren Conrad worshipper. I think she's so fantastic -- always chic, confident, and put-together. And I love just about everything she does -- especially her gorgeous Paper Crown collection. The pieces are so pretty and feminine, and I get the feeling that a girl becomes instantly flirtier just by slipping into one of these dresses or jackets. Even better, each look is so luxe and has potential to flatter anyone.

I think that little touches of holiday cheer can be so fun. Holiday-themed jewelry tends to look kitschy, but the House of Harlow antler collection is so beautiful. Quality pieces that just suggest facets of the holiday season -- like elegant representations of reindeer antlers -- are so beautiful and festive without being too sparkly and covered in red-and-green jewels. I often think that the smallest touches make the biggest difference in any outfit. A pretty ring, great bag, or bright belt can truly make a look, and this little camisole is a perfect example. I recently posted about my first suit. ATTAINABLE: Old Navy Women's Fair Isle Fingerless Gloves

I completely understand that fingerless gloves are possibly the least practical purchase for a Midwest girl to make. They're thin and hardly do a thing to keep your hands warm. But they're just. So. Cute. And practical, as far as I'm concerned -- how am I supposed to check my e-mail as I stroll down the quad if I have to keep taking a pair of real gloves on and off? These adorable Old Navy ones are not only Fair Isle (my favorite winter print) but have the tiniest row of sequins and just enough sparkle to keep me cheery through gray winter days.

I've never been one for corduroy. Perhaps it speaks to my insecurities, but adding bulk to my lower body has never been something I'm interested in. However, I'm totally enamored by the fabric for pants this season. Skinny, wide-leg, boot-cut -- you name it. Colored, neutral. I love it all and think that they're such a fabulous alternative to jeans when pants truly become the only option to keep from freezing to death.

It's officially gotten to the point in the season where I can wear cozy thermal tops without a second thought. And, thanks to this adorable Free People one, I can still feel cute doing it. I want one in every color so that I can make this my official uniform.

Post-Thanksgiving, all I think about is the holiday season. Well. That, and finals. I wish that was a joke. My apologies for the recent sparkle overkill, but I couldn't resist sharing this adorable little Line & Dot jacket from Anthropologie. I love that it would add a festive touch to any outfit, from dark skinny jeans and riding boots with a simple white tank to a little black dress for a cocktail party. I love the cropped silhouette, blush-gold tone, and bolero shape, and the million little sequins make it feel so unique and special.

Over the past few years, Thanksgiving has become one of my favorite holidays. It used to be simply a marker for me, a sign that Christmas was soon to come. But I've come to appreciate the family aspect, the final days of fall (sometimes even without snow -- but rarely), and the sentiment of simply being grateful. The cranberry sauce/turkey/dinner roll sandwiches, chocolate cream pie, and post-dinner naps in front of a roaring fireplace (my all-time favorite Thanksgiving tradition) are, of course, welcome additions to the celebration as well.

I've decided something important: Kate Spade pieces can fix anything. They're so cheery and colorful that I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't brighten someone's day, at least a little. As the weather turns cold and my workload increases steadily by the day, I've come to truly appreciate the collection of pretty winter accessories that the brand has so thoughtfully provided for me to drool over. From air quote mittens to "L" and "R" earmuffs, everything is so charming. I especially love these mittens with "OVER" and "HERE" emblazoned in bold red -- perfect to send a signal to someone.

My first suit shopping experience was an utter disaster. I'll spare the details, but the prospect of growing up naturally reduced me to a near panic attack in a lovely camel wool pantsuit in the middle of a dressing room. Thankfully, I was much more prepared when I headed out a few days later, and I fell in love with this look. The fit is perfect, and I love the cut of the jacket and pencil skirt. Best of all, I think, is how I feel in it: confident, powerful, and (just maybe) ready to grow up, just a little bit.

How could I help but let this pretty little strapless dress steal my heart? I think it's the color that really does it for me: it's such a pretty steely purple shade. Between that and the pleating detail at the neckline, I was a goner. I love that this will work now and in the winter with a great pair of textured tights, but it would be adorable with bare legs and wedges come spring.

Though I love the way that they look, I simply don't wear scarves as often as I'd like. It's just not something that I think about on a regular basis. However, come winter, I can nearly always be found with a warm scarf tied around my neck. While I love the different ways that other girls tie their scarves, I can never quite seem to figure it out -- so snoods and eternity scarves make my life that much easier. This year, I'm loving big, chunky knits and pretty patterns to pair with the most basic of my wool coats.

The onset of the holidays means many things, one of which is this: parties, parties, parties. While I love a killer sparkly dress for festive occasions, it can be hard to rewear in the same season and it's always nice to mix things up a little. Thus, my love of the sparkly skirt. This J. Crew one is such a chic shape and I love the metallic twist on the classic pencil shape. The slight brocade is killer, and the bow is so fun. This would pair beautifully with opaque tights and heels, leaving the top of your body as a versatile canvas for tuxedo jackets, simple tops, and pretty coats.

There's a lot to like about winter: softly falling snow, twinkle lights, the holiday season, everything smelling like evergreen. Of course, with that snow comes slush. Sleet. General yuckiness ruining my favorite pairs of shoes. That's not so nice. Living in the Midwest, I've found that a great pair of winter boots is hard to beat. Unfortunately, a great pair of winter boots is also hard to find. I generally dislike the clunky look and excessive use of "trendy" details, so I try to avoid them all together. Of course, this only leads to devastation for my favorite suede pumps, so I've decided it's time to find the elusive perfect boot. They're an investment piece for me: a pair that looks sleek but is functional is hard to come by, and I'll splurge if I find some that don't make me feel like an Eskimo. Thankfully, I've found two pairs that I think certainly fit the bill.

Guaranteed to keep your feet warm thanks to the puffer boot shaft and your toes dry due to the rubber upper, I can't image a more practical boot. The lug sole would give great traction, and, honestly, how sleek do these look? If I MUST pair a winter boot with tights and a pencil skirt as I dash from my door to my car, these are definitely about as good as it can get. And of course the plaid trim is darling.

Though this boot is decidedly more casual and reminds me of the ones my dad wore when shoveling snow when I was a kid, I'm smitten with them. I think they'd be darling for casual errands and anything involving lots of slushy parking lots. There's just enough shearling and lacing detail to keep the boot interesting without looking cheesy. Practical and adorable, especially when paired with dark denim leggings and a long cardigan.

We all have our "second families." As a college student, I have a whole network of people at Notre Dame who have become mine. A few of my friends and I get together every week for game night and good food, and it was at one of these gatherings that I was introduced to my current addiction: vanilla sauce. It's incredible. I first tasted it atop warm bread pudding but have found dozens of uses for it. Made simply of brown and white sugar, butter, cream, and vanilla, this sauce is truly amazing and is about the easiest recipe you could find. I've dipped pretzels in it, eaten it straight from the skillet, and even drizzled it over flatbread pizza, and each way was phenomenal. My favorite vehicle for it was a piece of homemade apple crisp; however, that disappeared before I could photograph it...

COVETING: Jeffrey Campbell France Suede Boots in Grey (also in Brown and Black leather)

When the weather turns chilly, I simply cannot get enough of boots. Currently, I'm lusting after this particular pair by Jeffrey Campbell. They're stunning. I love the stacked heel and the straps that wrap up the ankles, and the free form shaft. The buckles are perfect, and the vibe is just Western-inspired enough to be charming but doesn't inspire me to pull out an "Annie Oakley" reference. Thank goodness for that.

I find that I fall into what I call the "dreary trap" as winter approaches. The skies darken earlier and my mood tends to match. And I wear a lot of gray. And black. I've found that I restrict bright, punchy colors to spring and summer, rich leaf and jewel tones to fall, and that leaves the dullest of neutrals for winter. I'm certainly not against gray and black, of course -- they're two of my favorite colors to wear -- but a shot of color in my wardrobe is most definitely necessary. The trick to allowing a bright piece to make it a definite impact is to keep the rest of your look neutral -- think camels, chocolate browns, and, of course, my beloved gray and black.

When it comes to doing color in workwear, it's a tricky line to toe. I love bright pencil skirts for this purpose. As long as the fit is spot-on and they're paired with crisp tops and classic pumps, you can't go wrong. Thus, this bright yellow one is perfection. How chic would it look with a chocolate-brown button-down cuffed at the sleeves and a tweed jacket?

A tiny shot of color is always a fantastic way to draw attention to a specific part of your outfit. Hence, a waist-cinching belt is the perfect way to pull the eye right to the smallest part of you. This would be perfect with a simple black shift dress or a camel-colored skirt. I love the bright poppy shade but the mint-green Frosty Ivy is a close second.

I don't know if I've ever loved a dress more. Everything about this Kate Spade frock is absolutely perfect: the bright red shade. The easy, swingy cut. The flared trumpet sleeves. The exposed zipper. The wide neckline. I love it all, and each factor makes this the perfect contender for holiday parties when paired with opaque black tights, tall heels, and a load of sparkly jewelry.

When it comes to color, J. Crew does it best. I love these fantastically bright heels. Perfect with a neutral dress or dark skinny jeans, these are sure to add a little pop to any look. It's as if Free People took notes on everything that I'm craving this holiday season in terms of partywear and created this dress just for me, no joke. A bright, festive shade. A perfectly detailed bodice. A floaty chiffon skirt. Each element combines in this frock to create a look that is absolute perfection.

Speaking of the holiday season, it always makes me want to pile on sparkly jewelry. Though they're definitely investments, I'm in love with Tom Binns' beautiful pieces. Everything is so bold and beautiful and vintage-inspired that it's simply impossible for me to not want each bauble. It's after Halloween -- which means that I can start thinking about the other end-of-the-year holidays. And gift wrapping is one of my very favorite holiday traditions -- I love adding special bows and details to make my presents especially pretty. I've always been eluded by curling ribbons, though -- I can never get them right. That's quite possibly why I'm enthralled by this Kate Spade ring... Or perhaps it's just because it's so pretty. I love how each gold curl is unique and I think that this ring would add that special touch to all of my holiday looks this year.

There's something about chunky sweaters that just gets me. Maybe it's because they cause me to think about curling up by fireplaces at Christmastime or running across campus with snow falling lightly, but I can never get enough of them. I'm obsessed with this skirt. I wish that was an exaggeration. I tried int on a few weeks back and can say that the photos on the website definitely don't do it justice. I love the dark plaid print in green and navy and the button detail at the top is fantastic. The pleats are fun and it has such a great back-to-school feel that I'd love to carry into the full year.

Though it's definitely not my favorite holiday, I have to say that there are some things I really like about Halloween. Watching "Hocus Pocus" and "Double, Double, Toil and Trouble." Getting to be someone else for a night. Dressing up in creative costumes. Kitschy decorations. Beautiful fall weather. Getting to feel like a kid again. And, of course, the candy. So much candy. I'm a self-professed cheesecake addict. Especially when there's a graham cracker crust involved. When I saw this recipe, I knew that I needed to test it out immediately. The sheer indulgence, impressive layers, tiny, precise squares, and high-quality ingredients were all incredibly appealing to me, and I knew that it would be the perfect delicate dessert to spend a Friday making. I'd never tried dulce de leche before and though I cheated a bit (I was too nervous and impatient to try baking or boiling the sweetened condensed milk myself, so I took the easy route and bought a can at Target), the canned stuff was so delicious that I'll definitely be doing it myself next time around.

I'm absolutely in love with this pretty little Forever21 skirt. It's just so feminine, being made of the softest, prettiest mesh-tulle mix and is the perfect shade of creamy, peachy nude. There's something about slowly drifting leaves that just screams "fall." They have such a beautiful texture, and the colors are of course phenomenal. ATTAINABLE: J. Crew Thin Hand-Enameled Bangle in Fresh Strawberry (also in a number of other colors and sizes)

I spotted these enamel bangles at J. Crew yesterday and I'm kicking myself for not picking up a handful. I'm quite legitimately obsessed with them. From the delicate, thin shape (which would contrast perfectly when added to one of the thicker bracelets) to the huge array of candy-inspired colors (so fun and unexpected for fall), there's just nothing to dislike about these pretty enamel bangles. What a great way to inject a little extra color into days that are growing increasingly dreary.

I'm not normally a huge Juicy Couture fan, save for the pieces that are truly exceptional or classic (like this bracelet, which I wear at least three times each week). I'll admit that the name evokes images of Paris Hilton and velour tracksuits. But that's a very early-2000s way to look at it, and I think I'm finally ready to move past my eighth-grade mentality. Between Emily's beautiful collaboration with the brand and the killer collections they've been putting out lately, I think I may be ready to look at the brand in a whole new way.

COVETING: Leifsdottir Pthalo-Blocked Blouse

For me, interesting textures epitomize fall. That's probably why I was so drawn to this gorgeous short-sleeved blouse. The contrast between the silky cobalt fabric and black lace is fantastic, and I love the dipped yoke and exposed zipper in the back. I can perfectly imagine it under a black suit, with the jacket taken off immediately after the workday ends, or tucked into a pair of dark skinny jeans.

I frequently worry that paillettes have gotten a bad rap. And I'll admit: their spangly, sparkly appeal definitely had its time in the 1980s, and their continual use in jewelry by low-end brands has caused them to frequently look, well, cheap. However, I'm always looking for fun new ways to inject sparkle into my wardrobe. And I'm convinced that they can be worn two ways: subtly and all-out, and either is totally appropriate when you allow the paillettes to be the star of their own show. You may have to shell out a little to ensure that you don't look like a Cirque du Soleil extra, but I personally am convinced that it's totally worth it.

With pretty Breton stripes and a simple shape, I'm convinced that the rows of gold paillettes take this top to another level entirely. Although these darling little flats do take the word "extravagance" to a whole new level, they're utterly stunning. The stripes are fun without being so trendy that they overshadow the sparkle, and I love the little bow. If you're looking for subtlety, here it is: the spangles on this darling cardigan are barely visible through a fine knit layer over the pockets and trim, but I think that's what's so great about this piece. After a little early-October heat wave, it's finally starting to feel like fall... And not just because of the Halloween candy display at Target (my greatest weakness). Rebecca Taylor, how I love thee. This is most definitely one of my all-time favorite brands. Every piece is pretty and chic, never sacrificing femininity but always staying sophisticated. The dresses are perfect for evening due to their flirty shapes and touches of sparkle, and the knitwear is to die for -- with the onset of chilly weather, I never say no to cozy, pretty pieces. There's a kind of ethereal vibe to this line, and I'm completely obsessed with it -- just subtle enough to make me feel as if I'm bringing fairytale land into the real world.

This little dress is so chic and perfect for fall. The bold red color is to die for, and it's perfect with tights -- a must when temperatures begin to drop into the autumn zone. This top always makes me think of fall. It's plaid, which is my favorite quintessential fall pattern, and the colors remind me so much of falling leaves that it's hard to resist. Despite my wishes for crisp fall weather, we're in the middle of a miniature heat wave this week. No complaints -- it could be raining -- so it only made sense to pair my autumn-inspired shirt with bare legs and my favorite nude heels.

I have a confession: I love animal prints. I'm not talking your run-of-the-mill leopard-print cardigan or flats; I mean literal animal prints. Where the animals are printed. On the clothes. What's cuter and more whimsical than a scarf with an elephant motif or a panther-covered dress? It's such a fun take on a trend that can often seem trite, and it's a great way to keep your look fresh without being tacky.

COVETING: Juicy Couture Embellished Cardigan

I fell utterly, completely in love with those pretty sweater after seeing it on Emily in her Juicy Couture collaboration video. It looks so unbelievably cozy with its thick, chunky knit, but it certainly looks chic thanks to the perfect fit and ribbed cuffs and hem. The best part, of course, is the rhinestone trim on the pockets and the perfect, PERFECT rhinestone elbow-patch detail. Obsessed.

It took me quite awhile to warm up to the whole cape trend. I think that they're so ladylike and chic, but I have my objections. First, they aren't, as a general rule, terribly figure-flattering. And second, living in the tundra that is the Midwest from November through March, they just aren't especially practical. But I've decided it's time to throw caution to the wind: after seeing this adorable post of TwirlySkirts, I'm convinced that a pretty cape can be the perfect autumn topper.

There's little that I love more than salted caramel. There's something about the butter, sugar, and salt together that's just so hard to beat. And in the fall, I crave the sweet, buttery smell that fills the house when making caramel. I'm not going to lie -- this is the third time that I've tried making these caramels (via this post), as candymaking can be tricky. Watching temperatures carefully and paying attention to the color is key, pizza rollers are perfection when it comes to cutting straight, even lines, and remember that you can always add more salt (spring for Maldon; it makes all the difference). I finally nailed them and couldn't possibly be happier.

I'm a great lover of dresses with carefully-crafted details. This little Ark & Co number is just the ticket for fall. I love the neckline and pleat detail on the bodice, and the little flutter sleeves are absolutely perfect with their lattice-style cutouts. Throw in the waist-defining bow and you have the perfect, bold fall frock that would pair brilliantly with a pair of pewter pumps and a chic smooth ponytail.

When it comes to a brand with an extensive variety of pieces, Rag & Bone is one of my all-time favorites. The obsession was set off when I first spotted these gorgeous nude oxford-style wedges on Valerie (see a similar and on-sale version here), but I love that the brand offers everything from jeans to belts to pretty jackets and chunky sweaters. I'm particularly enamored with the fall collection, which includes lots of plaid and leather, two of my all-time favorite fall trends.

I've always been a big fan of Trompe l'Oeil details. A French term, it means the use of optical illusion to create the effect of a three-dimensional object -- like this bow-printed sweater. It's just kitschy enough to be adorable but not tacky. I love it styled here, with these bold, pretty wide-leg pants, but I think it would be equally adorable slouched over a short skirt.

There's something so ladylike about pleated skirts. The detail is so feminine and delicate. Whether short, knee-length, or at the ultra-chic (but occasionally difficult to wear) mid-calf-length, these skirts are nothing short of autumn perfection, and there are so many pretty options. I especially love ones in rich fall fabrics, from leather to chiffon to wool, especially when paired with fitted cardigans.

I'm fully aware that I've done nothing for the past several weeks but harp on pretty fall color palates, rich textures, and luxurious fabrics. We've finally gotten a little taste of autumn here over the past few weeks, and I simply couldn't be more thrilled. I'm ready to break out my newly-expanded collection of light coats and closed-toe pumps. I love the contrast between this trench and copper sequined skirt so much that I kept the rest of the look almost painfully simple to really let the sequins shimmer. COVETING: Paper Crown Emma Dress

I admittedly love most things that Lauren Conrad does, but I must say that her Paper Crown line takes the cake, hands-down. It's packed with feminine, pretty pieces that flatter a huge variety of body shapes and are guaranteed to make the wearer feel incredibly ladylike. I love this Emma dress with its defined waist, chic shape, and perfect blue color. It will still be perfect with bare legs and nude pumps, but is styled so nicely with opaque tights and matching heels to make legs look positively endless.

I'm fully aware that my obsession with leather is rapidly reaching the "out of control" point. But I can't help it. It's just the greatest, richest, most luxurious fabric for fall. And while I'm crazy for just about all leather pieces these days, I don't think you can beat a killer leather jacket. It's a classic piece that works perfectly for both fall and winter, whether with jeans and a pair of booties or over a floaty, flirty chiffon cocktail dress and sky-high pumps. But since it's such a big investment, I'm always searching for the perfect one before making the big leap.

ATTAINABLE: Madewell Golden Nest Necklace

It's no secret that I'm a big, big Madewell fan. I can't get enough of the pretty pieces that mix elements of femininity and toughness so perfectly, and the jewelry is always perfectly in fitting with that theme. This necklace is a tangle of fabulous gold chains that would make a perfect addition to my fall wardrobe. How chic would it be against a plaid button-down or a simple black cocktail dress? And as for the fact that there's a matching bracelet, well... I'm going to count that as a necessity too.

I am a complete denim addict. The form doesn't matter -- shirts, jeans, shorts -- I'll take a good denim piece over just about anything else any day. There's something so versatile about it that can be dressed up or down so nicely. But I tend to stick to the same colors -- perfectly-faded blues and dark, dark rinses. I must say, I'm a big fan of fall colors. This pretty little Banana Republic sweater is just adorable. The slightly-gold-slightly-green shade is absolutely perfect for autumn. It would pair perfectly with dark jeans and brown boots and would look fabulous next to a big pile of leaves -- a requirement for me in fall apparel.

For me, plaid is certainly not restricted to autumn. However, it's my go-to print when the weather turns crisp and the leaves start to fall (see here and here). There's something that feels so rustic about a simple flannel button-down, and I love that just changing the fit makes it less lumberjack and a million times more chic. Even better, in my opinion, is plaid when used unexpectedly: flats, jackets, and dresses are some of my personal favorite uses for the preppy pattern. And luckily, there's an abundance of phenomenal plaid pieces this fall to help me stay cozy and chic.

In case you haven't noticed from my past food posts, salads aren't really my food of choice (these, this, and this are more my style, regardless of the time of day). However, with all the fresh produce that comes with summer, I do crave them from time to time. As strawberry season comes to an official end, I've been eating this particular one nonstop. I love routine. I love being dependable. But I sometimes fear that I'm becoming one of those people who could easily become predicable. So every once in awhile, I try to do something completely uncharacteristic. Whether it's cooking an obscenely spicy Mexican dish or trying on a dress in an unusual shape with a print that I've never worn, I try to mix it up every once in awhile. This little Urban Outfitters frock is unlike anything I've ever worn before, but I'm loving the tiered shape, preppy tiny pony print, and black-and-white contrast. When paired with simple, chic accessories and a bold turquoise necklace, it made for the perfect dinner outfit.

Remember when I went on my rant about loving colorblocking for fall? Hello, colorblocked Mary-Jane-inspired pumps. How perfect are these? The base of the shoe is in my always-favorite leg-lengthening nude shade, and the platform is a bright, punchy coral color. With the tall black stiletto and sweet little strap, there's zero wrong way to wear these Steve Madden heels. I'd rock them with black dresses contrasting tights, wide-leg jeans, pleated skirts and bare legs... The possibilities are endless.

Leather is one of those fabrics that simply makes me think "FALL." In capital letters. However, it's not just restricted to jackets and gloves. The lovely Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere, above, always finds such inventive, phenomenal ways to wear leather, and I've decided it's time to invest in some soft, quality pieces of my own. I'm determined, however, to make sure that it doesn't look as if I belong with the T-Birds in "Grease" or a lost member of Hell's Angels.

Chic riding boots added to every pair of my skinny jeans. Colored leather bags carried with all of my favorite fall outfits. From well-cut shorts to pretty skirts, leather can be anything but stiff and constricting. It adds a touch of bad-girl to even the most feminine of looks, keeps you warm, and looks insanely chic. As if it gets better than that.

It's certainly no secret that I'm a big, big fan of cardigans. And tie-waist cardigans are some of my favorites. They're pretty, flattering, and very feminine. This pretty Gap one is just what I'm craving this fall. I love the slightly contrasting belt and the pointelle cutouts on the shoulders keep it feeling fresh and special. Perfect to wear with jeans or toss over a dress on a chilly fall evening.

Something about fall always makes me want to try new things -- adding a little bit of edge to my look is on the docket this year, and I can't think of a better way than incorporating pyramid studs into my outfits. Though I don't think I'll be breaking out any major hardware, I love the idea of adding just a touch of toughness with accessories. And in leg-lengthening nude leather with a perfect peep toe, I can't image a more chic fall shoe.

With Labor Day just around the corner, I've been breaking out all of my most summery dresses in a manner which one could only describe as slightly panicked. This little Juicy jumper, in crisp, pastel-printed cotton, fit the bill perfectly for one of the last days of summer. I love all of the little details, from the buttoned straps to the scalloped detail, that make it feel unique and flirty. Though I can't wait to slip into richly-hued sweaters and knee-high boots, I can say with no lack of certainty that I'll miss the ease of simple, pretty looks like this one.

Since seeing Emily's gorgeous green pencil skirt on Monday, I've had them on my mind. When I spotted this pretty lace version from Anthropologie, I fell completely in love. The shape is beautiful, adn the lace overlay is absolutely to die for. With a pair of discreet side pockets, it's hard for me to imagine this skirt being any more phenomenal -- especially if paired with a crisp white button-down and a pair of high nude pumps.

Summer for me is all about pretty, floaty dresses -- preferably in light shades and airy cotton. However, I've been spending more and more time lately thinking about little black dresses and their incredible versatility as we head into autumn and (okay, I'm jumping the gun a little) then the holiday season. What I love in particular about this season's dark-toned frocks is that every one has some fantastic detail or textural element to keep it from feeling at all run-of-the-mill.

Although I know I've harped on my excitement for fall to no small extent, there are obviously a lot of things that I'll miss about summer. White dresses, being able to count on going outside without a coat, and, of course, s'mores. It only seemed fitting to pay one last tribute to one of my favorite summer treats as the season winds down, and these brownies seemed like such a fun way to do it. I certainly wasn't disappointed -- the brownies themselves were perfectly gooey with an intense chocolate flavor, and the graham crackers in the mix stayed crunchy for added texture. The best part, however, was the plethora of toasty, golden brown marshmallows on top. No sticks required.

My hair has the strangest texture -- slightly wavy, but not enough that it looks deliberate. Hence, I straighten my hair most days to create a smooth, sleek style that I desperately wish I'd been born with. However, I've been thinking that it's time to up my game when it comes to flat irons -- my inexpensive Vidal Sassoon one does the trick but isn't too gentle on my locks. So when Misikko, hair-supply site selling top brand products like Chi Irons, offered to send me the 1.5" HANA Professional Flat Iron, I was thrilled. It shipped quickly and with tons of other fun goodies in the box (shine serum, yes, please!), and I can definitely say that my hair has never looked healthier or straighter -- definitely clear in the shots from the fall photo shoot my mom and I did before I headed back to school.

I've been really obsessed with the colorblocking trend -- and I plan to ride it as long as I can into fall. This pretty little Urban Outfitters dress will definitely help with that. I love the placement of the colored side panels; they create such a pretty, slimming look. And the bodice is incredibly flattering. I'll most definitely take one in every color.

I've come to truly love autumn. The leaves, the colors, the excitement in the air at the beginning of a fresh season... As always, I'm sorry to see summer come to an end for me -- I'm letting go of days sitting in the sunshine, baking delectable treats daily, and seeing old friends frequently. But there's plenty to look forward to as well. Fall always feels like the beginning of something new. And of course the clothes are absolutely phenomenal.

I love rich, luxurious textures for fall -- especially leather. And I have a confession: I have a bit of a thing for leather skirts. I don't know why; I just think that they're pretty and soft and fun but have a bit of an edge. Unfortunately, most of the ones that I see give off a slightly cheap vibe due to their cut. This pretty little Elizabeth and James one, however, certainly doesn't. I love that the tiers of leather give even more texture to the piece and that it's not too short or tight. Yet another bit of brilliance from this fabulous brand.

I'm undoubtedly a Mad Men fan. And I'll admit that this is due in no small part to the costumes. Everything about sixties style is so wonderful: the ladylike silhouettes, the tailored fit and flirty cuts, the colors... I want it all. And thanks to Banana Republic's Mad Men Collection, I can work this look in a modern way. With beautiful cuts and in fabrics like silk and lace, there's just no better way to hop into fall, as far as I'm concerned. Time to break out the pearls.

When the weather turns crisp and leaves begin to drop from the ends of tree branches, I often find myself at a crossroads: it's not cold yet, but my summer shorts are too light to wear. COVETING: Club Monaco Eden Skirt

High-waisted skirts and I are old friends -- I find the style to be so clean, chic, and flattering all at once. This little Club Monaco one has such a unique shape and fantastic details. I love the pleating and pockets, and the buttons down the front are simply darling. I'd love this with a crisp white shirt and pumps for work, but it would be perfect with a tank and cardigan for a weekend lunch as well.

If I've learned one thing about staying chic while studying at college, it's that there's no quicker way to ruin a great outfit than by throwing on a backpack. However, with a slightly chunky laptop like mine (I really do love the thing, but it weighs about eight pounds) and loads of novels and notebooks to drag around campus, there seems to be no real alternative. I have, however, found that large, inexpensive but well-made structured bags in neutral colors work well with every outfit and hold all I need while still appearing put-together.

I'll eat anything involving Oreo cookies. I blame it on a childhood spent with my siblings twisting the Double Stuf versions apart to create "super sandwiches" with an obscene amount of cream filling inside. Oh, the memories. So when I spotted this recipe (via this post), I knew that I had to make a homemade version of my favorite sandwich cookies immediately. It was significantly easier than I expected, and the treats turned out beautifully -- slightly chewy but still crunchy with deep cocoa flavor and a sweet cream filling remarkably similar to the real Oreo one. And the best part may be that I created several little sandwiches with extra cream inside to send off to my siblings. Some things just never change.

Though my devotion to denim dresses has been no secret this summer, this Queen's Wardrobe one is nothing if not an original. I love the floaty shape (perfect to be cinched by a chic leather belt) and sleeve silhouette, but the real star is clearly the all-over embroidery that makes this frock seem totally unique. It would be perfect paired with simple flats or sandals but would also look phenomenal with a pair of wedges or sky-high nude heels... I want one desperately.

I am a big, big fan of the tie-neck (also known as "pussybow") blouse. Ever since scooping up this French Connection one last year, I've been fascinated by the secretary-inspired look. I think it's so classy and chic but still just a bit playful. And after seeing this post at Born and Bread, I'm totally sold on the appeal of this trend for fall. I love that these pretty blouses could be paired as easily with jeans and flats as a wool skirt, tights, and boots -- what a perfect transition piece.

And you really do have to love items that allow you to do that.

I'm a sucker for a pretty pair of stud earrings -- it's such a subtle way to add a little extra visual interest to your look. These little Anthropologie ones are so chic in a vintage-inspired way. I love the blue squares for summer, but the yellow ones are equally pretty, and the circular gray ones would be adorable for fall. I personally am tempted to buy all three.

Speaking of pretty, it just doesn't get much sweeter than Tibi. It's one of my favorite lines for gorgeous, slightly sexy but completely darling pieces. With chic pieces ranging from casual day dresses to frocks perfect for attending a summer wedding, this brand rarely missteps when it comes to creating beautiful looks. And couldn't we all use a little extra pretty in our lives?

I'm officially adoring this gorgeous citrus-hued frock. The one-shoulder shape is so pretty, and the draping on the bodice is utterly beautiful, especially when contrasted with the flirty, flouncy skirt. This would be perfection with a pair of chunky caramel-toned heels for a wedding or cocktail party.

Tibi. Sale. Bow. Trench coat. These are four of my favorite things, and combining them has resulted in this stunning topper -- on sale. I love the classic khaki color, but the pretty pink terra cotta shade is gorgeous and surprisingly multi-seasonal. The details on this coat have to be my favorite part, though. The pleating is nothing short of phenomenal, and I love the collar and bow. Too pretty for words.

Though it may seem a little extravagant for a cover-up, especially this late in the season, I can't help it -- I've fallen head-over-heels for this sweet little dress. I love everything from the floaty sleeves to the carefully belted waist, and the neckline is so pretty and unique. Perfect for showing up a bright bathing suit underneath.

As the window for wearing white dresses comes to a rapid close (although I admittedly rarely follow the Memorial Day/Labor Day rule to a T), I find myself even more drawn to them than I was in May. This eyelet one is so flirty. I love the fitted bodice and fabulous little skirt, and the sleeves are such a great shape.

There are a lot of words that I'd use to describe my style: classic, girly, sophisticated, preppy. "Boho" is not, and never has been, among this collection. However, I occasionally feel a need to loosen things up a bit when the weather turns warm. This little Sanctuary top is perfect for helping me slip out of my comfort zone thanks to its gorgeous sequin detail and pretty tied shoulders. When paired with my favorite hippie-esque wide-legs and a pretty gold bangle, I can sufficiently say that my bohemian tendencies have been satisfied.

COVETING: Milly Ikat Butterfly Sleeve Dress

I'm more than kind of in love with everything about this dress. To begin, the light fabric is incredibly flirty. The shape is easy but still very flattering, and the colors are sweet enough for summer but rich enough to transition seamlessly to fall. This would be fantastic with a colorful pair of flat sandals and big bag for day, but could be easily amped up with the addition of sky-high nude heels and a metallic clutch.

One of my favorite things about summer is the fantastic number of warm-weather events to attend. From housewarmings to dinner parties to barbeques, there seems to be something going on at least a few times each week. I always like to bring a little something for the host or hostess -- and while fresh flowers are a favorite of mine, I like to try to get a little more creative when the occasion warrants it. From a pretty candle to a jewelry tree to a vase for all those flowers that other people are bringing, there are plenty of options which are both playful and sophisticated at all price points.

There's something about lemons that simply screams "summer" to me. I don't know whether its their sunny color, bright citrus flavor, or simply the fact that they evoke memories of sipping lemonade on hot days, but they're easily one of my favorite warm-weather treats. I figured I'd better work on perfecting my lemon bars before the (rapidly-approaching) end of summer and this weekend seemed to be the perfect opportunity. By use of this recipe, I wound up with a pan of refreshingly tart treats that lasted only a day in my house and were perfect to top off a hot summer weekend.

It's really hot outside. There's not a more eloquent way to say it. After a heat-advisory-warning that's lasted all week, the last thing I was about to do was wear something that was even the slightest bit fussy. This easy tribal-print skirt was just the ticket thanks to its light cotton fabric and floaty shape. When paired with the little Anthro tee that has quickly become a summer staple for me (I'm slightly addicted to the tie-back keyhole), a bright bag, and turquoise jewelry, the simple piece was the only thing helping me keep my cool on an incredibly hot summer evening.
