beauty trend to try -- oxblood lips.

COVETING: Elevenses Ribboned Velvet Trousers in Grey (also in Black)
www.anthropologie.com; $148
Although I'm obviously a big proponent of a sparkly dress for holiday parties, I have to say that I love the idea of mixing things up with a dressy pair of trousers. Adding sparkle and shine is an easy way to elevate your pants to eveningwear, and the texture on these velvet trousers does it perfectly. I love soft, slightly shiny fabric and the bow belt is so festive. Perfect to pair with a shimmery top and smoking slippers for the ultimate in party comfort.

Holiday beauty trends are always tricky -- it's so easy to slide into cheesy territory with Christmas tree-bedazzled nails or Santa Claus-red lips and too-rosy cheeks. But the oxblood lip trend is, if nothing else, sophisticated. Since dark lips tend to scare the heck out of me, I'm more drawn to berry-esque shades paired with a fairly neutral and slightly luminous face to make them seem less goth and more glam.

 {I love this berry hue and the super-clean but still put-together eye makeup}

Kat Dennings Oxblood Lip and Nails
{For the more daring, this color on Kat Dennings is so deep and rich and perfectly holiday-ready}

{Megan Fox's lips are glossy enough to offset the deep hue a bit}

Will YOU be wearing oxblood lips this season?
