pretty things -- schoolgirl chic.

COVETING: Alice + Olivia Addison Bow Crop Jacket
www.shopbop.com; $396
It happens every time fall approaches, like clockwork -- I become obsessed with blazers.  Cropped or long, classic or with fun twists -- it doesn't matter.  They're the perfect way to make a summery wardrobe feel fresh for fall.  This Alice + Olivia cropped jacket is a particularly genius option thanks to its unique shape and perfect detailing.  The sleeves are fantastic and I positively adore the bow -- it's such a ladylike detail that is sure to make every outfit feel special.

Although it's been a long time since I went traipsing off to school in shiny new Mary Janes, carrying a plastic lunchbox, my mind always drifts to back-to-school fashion when autumn is on the horizon.  This year's styles are a dream come true for me: the schoolgirl look is back, and from knee socks to blazers, I'm completely obsessed.  To keep the look from being too Britney, I highly recommend rich textures, perfect tailoring, and accessories that take the schoolgirl theme to a new level entirely.

J. Crew Schoolboy Blazer in Velvet in Boulevard Green (also in Black, Poppy, Navy, and Festival Blue)
www.jcrew.com; $178
I'm always a fan of J. Crew's Schoolboy Blazers -- they're in such classic cuts and are so versatile.  I love this season's velvet version; it's casual enough to class up a pair of skinny jeans but would be the perfect addition to an evening look to keep things festive.  I'm particularly fond of this green shade, but would happily take a closet full of these.

Milly Delphine Leather Swirl Skirt
www.shopbop.com; $495
I love this take on the pleated skirt due simply to its unconventionality.  Rather than super-clean box pleats, this pretty piece has a softer silhouette due to organic-looking folds of fabric.  Even better, of course, is that it's leather, putting a slight bad-girl spin on the look.

Dolce Vita Mary Jane Pump in Blue (also in Grey and Black)
www.urbanoutfitters.com; $99
There's something about a pair of Mary Janes that will always be so fun and feminine to me.  This pair is all grown-up thanks to the bold blue suede, slightly chunky heel, hidden platform, and delicate ankle strap.  While I love the blue, I think that the black pair would create a fabulous, lean silhouette with sparkly dresses and opaque black tights.

Madewell Leather Caravan Satchel
www.madewell.com; $198
If you're going to adopt one schoolgirl-esque trend for fall, I highly recommend the satchel.  These versatile bags are so chic and roomy, making them perfect for toting all of your everyday essentials.  This pretty Madewell one is just weathered enough to look rustic without being beat-up, and I love that there are multiple ways to carry it.  And the pretty caramel color is absolutely to die for.

Will YOU be inspired by back-to-school wear this fall?
xo Josie
Thanks to Shopbop, J. Crew, Urban Outfitters, and Madewell for the photos.

Is there anything Alice + Olivia can't do right? And I think that everyone should own a velvet blazer. It's the perfect mix of serious and fun.
