longchamps and lumberjacks.

Gap shirt, Vanity tank, Express skirt, Banana Republic flats, Longchamp bag, Coach bracelet, Aldo earrings

It's almost November and it's still bare-leg weather. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it was HOT early on this week. What is going on with that? Regardless, I was determined to inject some fall into my wardrobe, and this pretty, ruffled plaid flannel shirt was just the way to do it. Paired with bold jewelry (these vintage-esque earrings are some of my new favorites) and simple colors, the red stood out perfectly and made the perfect backdrop for the handful of leaves which my mother spontaneously threw at me.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Halloween!

obsessed -- milly.

James Perse Fair Isle Sweater Dress
COVETING: James Perse Fair Isle Sweater Dress; retail $395
I want to marry James Perse. I really do. Because then he could spend all day making beautiful, ridiculously soft things for me to wear. Seeing as this isn't really an option, I'll have to settle for drooling over his stunning pieces. This sweater dress is currently at the top of my wishlist, to the extent that I can't stop thinking about it. I'm a big fan of anything with a Fair Isle print, and I love that this one is limited to beautiful shoulder detail. The light charcoal shade is perfect for fall, and the length is fab to wear with tights and booties. Thank you, JP, for making my week a little prettier. Now how about a sale?

I should just not be allowed on Shopbop. I spend entirely too much time thinking about things that I simply can't afford. Regardless, it's my poison -- I can't get enough. And when I browse different brands and find a new one that I love, well, I do tend to be rather obsessed. Enter Milly, one of my new favorite labels. This brand specializes in stunningly feminine pieces and pretty cocktail dresses (my favorite), making it the perfect fodder for a mid-week boost of pretty. Better, these dresses are so chic and perfect for holiday parties (right around the corner) that I may even be able to justify buying one on sale.

Milly Liana Mini Dress
Milly Liana Mini Dress; retail $396
If you've been searching for the perfect lace dress (and aren't we all, seeing as lace is so hot right now), I think that you may have found it. I am utterly in love with this chic little number. The length keeps the lace from feeling old, the sleeves are genius, and I love the scalloped hem. The sheath shape is simple and perfect to pair with tights and tall, tall heels for a look that screams Blair Waldorf. PLUS, it was featured at BonBon Rose Girls, so you know it's going to be a winner!

Milly Ruffle Boyfriend Cardigan
Milly Ruffle Boyfriend Cardigan; retail $335
This piece literally combines all of my favorite things: belted cardigans, ruffles, sequins... It's all there but doesn't feel overworked in the slightest. How sweet would this be with skinny jeans and boots or over a lovely cocktail dress for a chic way to stay warm at night?

Milly Vivi Combo Dress
Milly Vivi Combo Dress; retail $385
What could possibly be bad about this? There's crochet, lame, and an adorable shape to boot. This dress is pure genius, honestly. So flattering, especially with monochromatic tights and heels.

Milly Sweetheart Strapless Dress
Milly Sweetheart Strapless Dress; sale (now) $160
Okay, clearly this isn't exactly what one might call a "winter" dress, but it's on sale and it's just SO stunning. I love the bold green shade and gorgeous leaf print. The pockets, of course, don't hurt this dress' appeal, and I'm actually in love with the ultra-flattering shape and beautiful neckline. Oh, Milly, how you DO know the way to my heart.

new obsession + earring giveaway winner.

ATTAINABLE: Gap Always Skinny Jeans in Saturated Dark Wash; retail $69.50
Anyone who follows me on Twitter (okay, or saw this post -- I'm really obsessed, guys) knows that Gap Always Skinny Jeans are officially my new favorite things on the planet. No joke. I'm an almost-daily denim wearer, and I'm also a diehard 7 for All Mankind fan -- but since buying a pair last Wednesday, I've bypassed my pricier pairs, reaching for my medium-wash pair of Always Skinnies instead. They're amazing. So soft, just skinny enough, and the ankle length fits me to perfection -- no hemming required. I want a pair in every single color.

Much thanks to all who entered my handmade earring giveaway! Christine has been thrilled with all of your support -- seriously, how talented is she?

And the lucky winner of this pretty pair of earrings is...

The absolutely adorable Molly from Leaving the House in This?!? Congratulations, my dear! E-mail me your address and I'll get these off to you ASAP. Be sure to check her out, seeing as her blog is one of my must-reads and it's absolutely awesome. Plus, she's possibly the sweetest girl alive.

boot redux.

J.Crew cardigan, Anthropologie top, Gap jeans, Steve Madden boots, Longchamp bag, Forever21 necklace and ring

Some things are just not meant to work out. Unfortunately, the combination of my calves and knee-high boots is just one of those things. After a sad experience with a pair of Frye boots that simply were not working (which Nordstrom thankfully took back), I was thrilled to come across this adorable pair of Steve Maddens. In the perfect shade of cognac brown with a tiny wedge, these fit my boot criteria wonderfully -- and, best of all, they're adjustable. I've barely taken them off since my purchase, a statement that is also true for these perfectly flattering Gap jeans -- my first official pair of skinnies, believe it or not. Add in a sparkly ring and beautifully-hued smocked top and you have my current favorite casual outfit. The gorgeous fall colors, of course, don't hurt either.

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend -- and don't forget to enter my jewelry giveaway!

get the look -- lace skirts.

Alice + Olivia Marie Tulip Dress with Bow Belt
COVETING: Alice + Olivia Marie Tulip Dress with Bow Belt; retail $495
I have been absolutely on the hunt for pretty fall dresses, and this one has certainly made the cut. The high neckline and dark floral pattern are perfect for this autumn, and I love how the bow belt keeps things a bit playful despite the somber colors. So chic with tights and heels or booties, no?

There's no denying it: lace is HOT for fall. My pal Valerie cites this look as being "grandma chic" and I couldn't agree more. I love this ladylike fabric, especially in sweet miniskirts this autumn. Although I have always loved a little lace skirt, it was when I saw Anna rocking her J.Crew mini that I really fell in love. And best of all, this trend isn't just autumn perfection -- it will carry you perfectly into the holidays, especially when paired with a simple top and sky-high heels. For the super-deal prices I've found... Who's in?

DEAL: Forever 21 Chantilly Lace Skirt; retail $19.80
I LOVE this chic little skirt. The black lace is intricate without seeming overworked, and the contrasting nude lining is positively genius. How darling would this be paired with a button-down and oxfords or a fitted tank and booties?

J. Crew
EXTRAVAGANCE: J.Crew Severn Lace Mini in Summit Green (also in Slate); retail $138
This is truly the skirt that set the whole lace psychosis into place for me. I love the gray shade, but this stunning evergreen color is just as lovely. The deep hue sets off the intricate lace pattern beautifully, and I love this skirt's day-to-night appeal -- how perfect to pair with a simple tee with flats for day and heels at night?

Nix High Waist Mini Skirt by Billabong - Click Image to Close
DEAL: Nix High Waist Mini Skirt by Billabong; retail $47
This skirt is so unique, and I think that's why I'm such a fan. The length is daring but the shape is classic. The studs work beautifully to give a bit of edge to the pretty lace, bringing such a nice contrast to the piece. And possibly best of all is the super attainable price. Thank you, Lulu's!

BB Dakota Isaac Skirt
DEAL: BB Dakota Isaac Skirt in Black/White (also in White); retail $49
This skirt is quite different from the others, and I'm loving it. The contrast between the bold lace overlay and subdued lining is fantastic, and I am so loving that scalloped trim. While I'm a fan of the black/white contrast, the white version of this skirt is too pure and beautiful to resist.

non-buyer's remorse + gorgeous jewelry giveaway.

Patterson J. Kincaid Deanna Belted Dress
COVETING: Patterson J. Kincaid Deanna Belted Dress; retail $148
I am utterly in love with those darling little dress. I tried it on at a boutique yesterday and haven't stopped thinking about it since. I just love everything about it -- the perfect blue shade, the belt, the henley-style placket, the long sleeves, and, most of all, the fact that it feels like the chicest oversized polo shirt ever created. Sadly, it's just not going to happen budget-wise right now, but I highly doubt that I'll be forgetting it any time in the near future.

{Christine and I at a wedding last year}

There is little that my cousin Christine isn't good at -- she's bright, talented, gorgeous, and one of my best friends. Not to mention that she's one of the most fabulously fashionable girls I know. And one of the greatest things about Christine is that she is always willing to jump in and give fashion DIYs a try (granted, it usually turns into a "group project" where I have to sew something while she sits nearby and provides entertainment).

She started making gorgeous stud earrings out of buttons a couple of years back and I love them to bits -- she made me two pairs that I'm OBSESSED with and wear all the time. And guess what, my dears -- she's made a pair especially for you, which I'll be giving away to one lucky reader!

How cute are these? Round studs with a black gem in the middle and pretty, intricate gold trim -- can you say "darling?"

elbows up.

BCBG Max Azria jacket, James Perse tee, American Eagle tank, 7 for All Mankind jeans, Kelly & Katie flats, Longchamp bag, Coach scarf, Forever21 ring and necklace, Merona watch

Have I mentioned lately how glad I am that fall has arrived? Changing leaves, cozy knits, warm blankets -- and, of course, jackets and rich tones. I love brown in any capacity, and in this gorgeous BCBG jacket, I remember exactly why that is. The plaid is to die for and my new favorite thing in the WORLD is elbow patches. So professor-chic, and especially fun when paired with jeans and an excess of pretty gold jewelry. On another note entirely, by the time this post is up, I'll be back in my beloved Minneapolis. That's provided I live through midterms, which is rather doubtful at this point.

Have an amazing weekend, loves!

eye candy -- home.

ATTAINABLE: Heritage 1981 Satin Rose Print Dress in Fuschia/Navy (also in Navy/Blue); retail $22.90
Seriously, how pretty is this little fall dress? I love the bold shade (although the navy is quite pretty as well) and chic cut -- the neckline and sleeves are perfection. The fun print is subtle without being boring, and I love that the dress would pair as easily with tights and booties as with metallic flip-flops -- a must, since we've been having the most unpredictable fall weather EVER here.

As midterms wrap up and I prepare to go home (!) for fall break, I find myself excited about every single aspect of it. Seeing friends who go to school closer to home, browsing in local bookstores, eating my mom's lasagna, going to apple orchards, shopping at my beloved Mall of America, spending entirely too much time browsing the small (and far too expensive) boutiques in Uptown Minneapolis and downtown Edina, making tasty recipes that I've been drooling over on blogs for months thanks to a fully-stocked kitchen (I'm determined to finally get these right, and how delectable do these sound? I'm sensing a pattern), maybe a fab little GIVEAWAY... To say that I'm stoked would most certainly be an understatement.

inspiration -- jewel tones.$detail-item$
ATTAINABLE: Free People Twisted in Chains necklace; retail $38
I love, LOVE costume jewelry, and Free People makes the prettiest pieces. And a good statement necklace steals my heart every single time. I love the mix of gold and silver on this one, and the cluster of crystals is so pretty. But my favorite part is the varied textures throughout the necklace that make it feel so unique. I'd be happy to throw this on with a plain white tee, trouser jeans, and heels for going out -- utter perfection.

Fall and winter are known for showcasing deep, rich tones, but these are certainly not limited to stunning autumn leaf colors. No, the cooler seasons also bring the gorgeous shades known as jewel tones back into action. These rich colors are some of my absolute favorites -- ruby, sapphire, emerald... My head spins thinking about the jewelry, but I'm a big fan of these tones in any kind of clothing. Perfect with jeans or stunning for evening, these shades add an instant sophistication to any look while still feeling fresh.

Truly, what could be more fabulous than letting your pretty hair shine against a stunning emerald dress or slipping your feet into a pair of ruby-red shoes? There's simply something so decadent about these shades that can be taken straight from running errands to work to cocktail parties -- splendid.

What's inspiring YOU today?

black and white.

J.Crew tuxedo shirt, earrings, and bracelet, a is for audrey skirt, Aerie cami, Merona tights, Mossimo heels, Calvin Klein clutch

If you've ever read a single word of my blog, my intense love for sequins has probably been mentioned. This all-over-sequined skirt is one of my absolute favorite pieces. I usually pair it with a simple white tank to avoid over-sparkle-syndrome, but I could hardly resist slipping it on over this pretty white tuxedo-style shirt. Adding black tights and pumps makes this totally fall-appropriate and I simply cannot wait to break this look out again around the holidays.

Have a fantastic weekend!

for a cause -- breast cancer awareness month.

Absolutely Autumn Brown Sequin Dress - Click Image to Close
ATTAINABLE: Lulu's Absolutely Autumn Brown Sequin Dress; retail $34
Hello, fall party perfection! I am completely enamored with this pretty little cocktail dress. It's just shimmery enough and is the perfect shade of autumn brown. The waistband is ultra-flattering and I love the shiny, colorful sequins at the top. Even better, the neckline combined with the metallic sequins reminds me vaguely of armor, which I'm so into right now. Throw on tights and a pretty pair of pumps and get ready to be the belle of all those pre-Halloween parties (okay, throw one so that you can wear it).

I'm guessing that we all know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a cause which I'm sure is close to many of our hearts, and mine is certainly no exception. This is such an important cause, and especially this month, there are some fabulous ways out there to look gorgeous WHILE helping charity... Does it get better than that?

Product Image Sonia Kashuk Breast Cancer Limited Edition Collection
Sonia Kashuk Breast Cancer Limited Edition Collection; pieces retail $5.99-$19.99
It's hardly a secret that I love most things Sonia Kashuk, and how fabulous is it that she's done an entire collection to benefit breast cancer awareness? Every piece, from the pretty nail shades to the eyelash curler to the pretty brush sets is gorgeous, pink, and, best of all, benefits a good cause -- genius.

kate spade new york "Raya" Red Silk-Wool Cap-Sleeved Sheath Dress
kate spade new york "Raya" Red Silk-Wool Cap-Sleeved Sheath Dress; retail $395
Bloomingdale's is doing some amazing things this month to benefit breast cancer awareness, so do check out their PINK Campaign. My personal favorite part of this program is that some absolutely gorgeous pieces are being sold with a part of the proceeds going to breast cancer awareness. This Kate Spade dress is just one of those items -- and how beautiful is it? The red shade is fantastic for fall and the shape is perfectly classic and utterly fabulous. Perfection.

Soft Joie "Knowles" Ruffle Front Top
Soft Joie "Knowles" Ruffle-Front Top; retail $108
Another pretty Bloomie's item for the cause, this Soft Joie top is more or less perfection in my book. The ruffles are pretty and organic-feeling, the black shade is classic, and I love the fact that it's a button-down. Perfect to pair with jeans and chunky bracelets, and I think that the cause justifies the splurge.

Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Rain Boot
Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Rain Boot; retail $75
I am completely in LOVE with these pretty rain boots. They're so chic and reasonable, and the discreet pink pony on the back heel is absolutely darling. Best of all, of course, a portion of the sales of these darling boots will be donated to the Pink Pony Fund for Cancer Care and Prevention. It just doesn't get more fabulous than that, does it?

What causes do YOU like to support?
